Subject: UUSJ Activist Directory Resolution

Date: Thu May 8 18:13:

Author: Thomas Donelson (rehabmissd@aol.com)

Finding: Some UU's who are members of Uu congregations in the Maryland, Virginia and District of Columbia Area, who are active, or interested in becoming more active, have expressed a willingness to be listed on the UUSJ Website, with an E-mail address or other contact information. The current UUSJ Website can accomodatye a text directory. There is at least one volunteer who is willing to provide a repository for the UU Activist contact information.

Proposed Resolution:
1. Listing in the UU Activist Directory is voluntary. The directory may contain a listing of any individual UU, or any person vouched for by a member of a UU congregation as having the faith of a Unitarian Universalist. The contact information is to be limited to the information to which the individual UU gives permission to be included in the Activist Directory.
2. The UU Activist Directory is intended to be low budget, with only text information being listed.
3. The Exectutive Board or UUSJ Chairperson may designate a volunteer, or staff, to act as a repository of the UUSJ Acivist Directory Information.
4. The Activist Directory shall be aranged both alphabetically, and in categories of interst and expertise. The category listing may contain the last name, and such other parts of the name as needed to distinguish between individual UU's with the same last name.
5. The Directory may also contain contact information for organizations which may be of service to furthering the interests of public advocacy for at least some UU's. A description of the assistance available from the organization may also be listed.

I ran into problems with Steve's site because my husband has our default web browser set to not accept cookies and I could not set up a password. I did manage to get this site. Is the cyber meeting still on for May 13?

Like Lois, I have had trouble signing on to Microsoft Messenger. I downloaded the software, which I am told continues to run, but for some reaosn I can't sign on for a passport. I'll keep trying. Meanwhile this system looks OK. I don't have a microphone on my computer, and some others may not either. In the long run we maybe should all try to get set up for oral conferences through our computers. We may not or may not be ready to do that by Tuesday evening.

Subject: 7. Limited Distribution UU Activist Dir.

Date: Mon May 12 12:07

Author: Thomas Donelson (rehabmissd@aol.com)

In Response to some concerns that posting on the UUSJ Website may limit the number of UU Acivist volunteering to be listed, Paragraph 7 is proposed, for the UUSJ Board to authorize the Chairperson and the Executive Committee to supervise volunteers engaged in compiling and distributing a Limited Distribution UU Activist directory.

7. Individual UU's may express a preference for having their listing, or certain additional listing information, provided only in a version of the UU Activist Direcctory that will not be posted on the UUSJ Website, but rather will have limited circulation, through UUSJ Board Members, and Social Justice Committees of UU area congregations, either by Xerox copy, or by E-mail attachment. The Chairperson and the Executive Committee may direct the gathering and dissemination of information for the Limited Distribution UU Activist Directory.

I was finally able to access your web page, Tom, and had no trouble finding the discussion group area. It may well be a good way to post information as we go along. The Net Meeting program I recommended should allow us to verbalize, but it requires that everyone have a microphone as well as speakers. Most people have the latter but not the former. I have extra headsets to give people, but I want to try it out with Vanessa one-on-one first (she's the only one able to sign up so far).

As for tomorrow's meeting, Vanessa found out that JPD has conference call capabilities that we can use. It may incur long distance charges, however, while Net Meeting has none. We should use it for this week's meeting and discuss other options then.

Subject: Unable to access E-mail snce Noon

Ordinarily I can use AOL Anywhere to access my E-mail from work. AOL has been experiencing technical problems, and I just spoke to the AOL Technical Help Line and the problem will not be resolved tonight. So if anyone has any additonal information on our meeting tonight, please post it for me here. I do have the conference meeting phone number, but I had not received confirmation that it was available at 8:30 PM.

I'm on the computer and will soon call in by phone. Tom, I've re-read your proposal. A minor suggestion: rather than "vouching" for somebody, it might be easier to specify that at this point we're listing members or official "friends" who are listed in a church directory. MVUC has a number of people in that category.

Author: Thomas Donelson (rehabmissd@aol.com)

The proposed revision is a rewording of the minutes dated 5/13/03, for clarification of the Advocacy Committee consensus, to read:

2.d. Agreement to make a recommendation to UUSJ Board, that we recommend the development of advocacy networks of individual Unitarian Universalists in the Baltimore-Washington area, including taking surveys of categories of intersts, and developing a directory, to increase synergy among Unitarian Univeralists of nearby congregations, with similar public policy intersts.
